WINDY CITY WHIRLWIND
CHICAGO, IL | THURSDAY AND FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20-21, 2018 | 10:30AM | MAX: 36
Visit the Windy City for a two-day whirlwind tour. You will start with a visit downtown to the Windy City Harvest program of the Chicago Botanic Garden, where Chicago youth and young adults are introduced to sustainable horticulture and urban agriculture.
Through education, mentoring, and job training, this program has enabled thousands of young people to realize their potential while at the same time making locally grown vegetables available in underserved neighborhoods. You’ll then visit the Shakespeare Garden at Northwestern University, maintained by the Garden Club of Evanston.
And you will spend a day at the Chicago Botanic Garden itself, where you will hear from Kay Havens, Ph.D., conservation and ecology scientist, and other staff who will talk about work undertaken by the Garden, including H.R. 1054, legislation supported by the GCA, to grow the supply of botanists on the nation’s public lands.
(Registration is limited to GCA club members. Each individual in a group should register independently.)
